Smoking is Grounds for Dismissal
Workers at Haukeland Hospital in Bergen, Norway, have been told that they can be fired if they are caught smoking while on the job or any area outside the hospital complex. The story reported in Aftenposten seems to indicate that someone who leaves work to eat at a restaurant better not light up an after-lunch smoke or they'll be in violation of the rules.
This seems to be a pretty radical solution to an unspecified problem. Nonetheless, I expect that American anti-smoking activists will soon try to impose similar rules.
