Abstinence Stops HIV Spread

According to this story, leading HIV experts say that more effort needs to be devoted to encouraging committed relationships among HIV infected people to control spread of the disease. They believe that there would be no global AIDS pandemic without widespread promiscuity. To address the AIDS issue, the experts are promoting fewer sex partners, condom usage, and, very importantly, abstinence.

Of note is the importance placed on abstinence by the experts (which include officials from the Global Fund for Aids, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the US Agency for International Development). Oddly, it's considered necessary to push abstinence throughout the globe but the experts surely won't advocate the program in the United States. Promoting abstinence in America carries a guarantee of being ridiculed in a firestorm of controversy. The experts would be subjected to vicious personal attacks and labeled as a right-wing extremists.

What's most curious is that the people who advocate abstinence in other countries are generally the same people who vigilantly refuse to allow discussion of the subject in the United States. Consider it another dichotomy demonstrating the hypocrisy of the political left.
