(Cleveland, Ohio) According to this story, Robert Essex Jr. of Euclid admitted to using KaZaA, the online downloading system, to illegally transcribe music and child pornography onto compact discs. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Mary Jane Boyle sentenced Essex to two years in prison. Judge Boyle also classified Essex as a sexually oriented offender requiring him to register with the police after he is released from prison.
This 2-year sentence is somewhat troubling. Essex possessed video files with girls aged 6 to 14, and, according to Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Brenden Sheehan,
"The videos showed minor children engaged in hard-core sexual activity with adult males with titles like 'Child Lovers,' and 'Daddy & Me at 6.'"Essex was also heavily involved in music piracy and bootlegging. Euclid Police Detective Sgt. James Baird stated that,
"The Recording Industry Association of America said it cost them more than $25,000 in sales."Maybe it's just me, but, after only two years in prison, I don't see Essex doing anything differently and it really seems that he's a threat to kids. I'd be nervous about having him in any neighborhood with children.
