Bar Association Votes to Continue Screwing Clients
(Winnipeg, Manitoba) At the annual Canadian Bar Association meeting, representatives rejected two proposed resolutions to prohibit member lawyers from screwing their clients. After passionate debate, the association decided that approving the motions would effectively be official acknowledgment that there are problems. So, the motions were soundly defeated.
Interestingly, there's no confirmation of the closed-door meeting where it's rumored that the organization overwhelmingly passed a motion to disbar and deport the lawyer who proposed the rule to stop screwing the clients.
My take is that observing arguments among lawyers who aren't being paid is measurably more enjoyable than watching them fleece clients. Thanks to new blogger Alexa for pointing me to this story.
