Preschoolers Fed Dog Food
(Tacoma, Washington) At Northeast Tacoma Elementary School, teaching assistant Terry Atkinson had a class of four-year-olds eat dog food while on the floor on their hands and knees. Naturally, parents became quite upset and complained. In response, the school district placed Atkinson on administrative leave.
The parents, however, weren't satisfied and wanted Atkinson fired and started calling the press to put pressure on the school district. Then Atkinson resigned. Still, the parents aren't satisfied. They want an apology from Atkinson and from the school principal, Pat Flores, who they feel handled the situation quite unprofessionally.
Inexplicably, according to Tacoma School District spokeswoman Patti Holmgren, the dog food came from a display intended to teach the preschoolers what not to eat.
