For the early morning grenade attack on fellow members of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division at a camp in Kuwait, Sgt. Hassan Akbar was sentenced to death by a military court. The grenade killed Major Gregory Stone and Captain Christopher Seifert and wounded 14 other soldiers. Any other ruling would have been an injustice.
Interestingly, a review of various Arab websites resulted in finding only one mention of the trial of Sgt. Akbar, that being in the Arab News. Other media sources have completely ignored the fate of Sgt. Akbar. Those reviewed were Aljazeera.com, Aljazeera.net, the Turkish Press, the Gulf Daily News, the Turkish Daily News, the Gulf Times, and the Bahrain Tribune. Obviously, the group of Arab news sources is not all-encompassing, but it sure is noticeable that only one of the eight even mentioned Sgt. Akbar. It seems to indicate that the commission of heinous violent crimes for the glory of Allah doesn't get the perpetrator much notoriety.
All in all, despite the hyperbole and frenzy espoused by Islamic terrorists, there seems to be scant enduring acclaim in performing the job of a sneaky, murdering bastard. All the better reason to hang on to the hope of 72 virgins because you sure can't count on 72 newspaper articles.

Diggers RealmAs a final thought, I expect the ACLU to protest the verdict, probably on the basis of religious discrimination against Akbar or that the court was unconstitutional.
