According to a report in Aljazeera.com, the head of Israeli Military Intelligence, Aharon Zeevi, believes that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad could easily be booted from power because of immense political pressure.
"His regime's stability is in great danger today, more than in the past. The economic problems will get worse."Names in the hopper for possible succession include General Asaf Shaukat, head of intelligence and Assad's brother-in-law, and the president's brother, Maher Assad.

"People are already saying that perhaps Bashar is not supplying the goods, that perhaps he should be replaced," Zeevi said.
Since Syria has been a despotic state with the al-Assads dictating actions for so long, it's difficult to imagine the workings of internal political discontent. However, it's probably safe to say that Hezbollah and the Baathist Party are upset with the direction that Syria has been taken by Bashar.
