(Tampa, Florida) Hillsborough County Commissioners unanimously adopted a policy prohibiting sex offenders and predators from entering county-operated hurricane shelters. According to Sheriff David Gee, the 1,200 registered sex offenders and predators living in Hillsborough County will have to make other arrangements.
County Commissioner Ronda Storms asked Gee this week about the possibility of creating a separate shelter for sex offenders and predators.Deputies will be sent to each public shelter and any sex offender found on the premises near children will be arrested for violating the conditions for release from jail.
"She asked, would I entertain the idea of having a special shelter for them, and I think my answer was no, they can take care of themselves," Gee said Wednesday.
"As far as spending resources to have some school or jail special for them, I think there are other people more needy of our resources," he said.
With recent highly-publicized abductions and murders by sex offenders in Florida, the entire state is sensitized to the need to keep track of the perverts at all times to make sure they don't come into contact with children.
