Former Teacher Arrested for Sex with Student

(Augusta County, Virginia) A 49-year-old former music teacher at Beverley Manor Middle School, Shelby Sue Shelton, has been arrested and charged with two counts of carnal knowledge of a minor and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

Shelton has been accused by a former female student of engaging in multiple sexual encounters in the 1990s at Beverley Manor, at other locations in the county, and in the city limits of Staunton. According to Augusta County Sheriff Randy Fisher, the student made the allegations "because it was the right thing to do and she did not want to see this happen to another child."

Shelton, now living in California, is jailed in Sacramento County and awaits extradition to Virginia.
