Woman Fired After Rescue Trip to Mississippi

(Columbia, Tennessee) After receiving a pleading message from her father in Mississippi to rescue her brother and sister from Hurricane Katrina's devastation, 20-year-old Kolonie Sims raced to the Gulf Coast but only after getting permission from her boss at the Family Dollar store for time off. Fortunately, she found her family safe, survivors of the destruction.

Yesterday, back in Tennessee, she was informed by telephone that she was fired for leaving work on Thursday and not traveling to Mississippi until Friday. A pretty weak excuse, if you ask me. For crying out loud, some preparation would be required for a trip of over 500 miles to an area that was without water, food, gas, electricity, or shelter.

It would be hard to dispute the contention that Family Dollar stores are staffed with two-bit bosses. Sims is better off not working for the miserable outfit.
