(Rafah, Gaza Strip) The Gaza-Egyptian border became considerably more porous earlier today when Hamas terrorists blasted a hole in the border barricade allowing a flood of Palestinians to scramble into Egypt.
From the Chicago Tribune:
The chaotic scenes were an early test of the Palestinian Authority's rule over the Gaza Strip and Egypt's ability to secure the border, where it has posted hundreds of troops to prevent arms smuggling, under an agreement with Israel.I can't be the only person that believes the Egyptian agreement with the Israelis to secure the border is pure folly. Unless other international pressure is put on Egypt, border security will be a pretense. What used to be considered smuggling will become everyday trade.
Moving to restore order, Palestinian and Egyptian commanders decided to close the border Wednesday evening, allowing one more day of visits, Palestinian officials said.
