Photos of Bus Evacuation in New Orleans

Mayor Ray Nagin has been criticized repeatedly for not using school busses to evacuate New Orleans citizens before and after Hurricane Katrina. In response, Nagin has fumbled through mouthfuls of excuses, leaning heavily on "There weren't any drivers because they had already evacuated." Apparently, his contention isn't entirely true.

With considerable commentary, both Wizbang and The Jawa Report have photographs of New Orleans city school busses on the move evacuating people in the Algiers area. For some reason, no busses were able to get to the Superdome.

All in all, it appears that somebody was able to get the school busses in operation and it wasn't Mayor Ray Nagin. In fact, one could easily be persuaded into believing that Mayor Nagin didn't have a clue as to what the circumstances were nor what action had to be taken. I suspect that he had never even read his own emergency plan before or during Hurricane Katrina.
