Goodbye Boomers & Gen-X'ers, Welcome the Millennials
The Baby Boomers and Generation X are no longer the primary targets for savvy magazine and television advertisers, particularly women who seek relationship tips and fashion advice. Now the focus will be the "millennials," those females who were born between 1980 and 2000. By 2010, the millennials will outnumber both the boomers and the Gen-X'ers.
It seems that strategies for advertising are being developed for almost every conceivable demographic subset in society.
To do my part in the demographic subgroup naming game, I'd like to coin the term for those individuals who purchase absolutely valueless products advertised on television, the Internet and in the press. People who buy the stuff should be called the "Baloney Gomers." Everyone has friends or relatives who regularly take home worthless crap. They're Baloney Gomers and they'll buy anything.
