(Akron, Ohio) After pleading guilty last month to four counts of sexual battery and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, 31-year-old cheerleading and dance coach Mishelle Robinson was sentenced to four years in prison.
Common Pleas Judge Patricia Cosgrove also classified Robinson as a sexually oriented offender required to register with the county sheriff upon her release from prison.
When given a chance to speak in court, Robinson offered excuses for why she committed the crimes.
"My life was on a downward spiral," she said. The judge explained to Robinson that her behavior was inexcusable. I concur. All people go through difficult times in their lives, but the overwhelming majority don't go out an commit sex crimes.
Her grandmother died, her marriage was falling apart and she had a miscarriage. To cope, she started drinking alcohol and partying with the victim's mother, she said.
"I was out of control," Robinson said.
