(San Diego) A "very primitive" tunnel underneath the U.S.-Mexico border was discovered and believed to be for human smuggling, according to ICE public information officer Lauren Mack.
From NCTimes.com:
A crude, 6-foot-long tunnel was discovered underneath a section of border fence at the U.S.-Mexico line in Otay Mesa, federal officials announced today. No suspects have been identified.
Members of the multi-agency San Diego Tunnel Task Force found the hand-dug underground passageway east of a commercial port facility yesterday morning, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Personally, I think the fact that San Diego has a multi-agency task force with the sole purpose of looking for tunnels indicates the extent of border security problems. I'll risk assuming that the multi-agency task force likely doesn't include any groups on the Mexican side of the border.
