Kid Dad Sues to Get Kid From Teacher Mother

(Pasadena, Texas) Remember Lisa Zuniga from a previous post? She's the teacher who, in 2003, had sex with a 13-year-old male student and got pregnant. Well, she had the baby, went to trial, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault, got sentenced to 30 days in jail and probation, and then got married to become Lisa Zuniga Duran.

With regard to the father, Andrew Gallardo, who is now 17 years old and soon to be 18, he's living in Oklahoma and wants full custody of his child.

Lisa Zuniga Duran was 27 years old when she worked at a Pasadena church school and admitted to having had a relationship with a then-13-year-old male student. She was sentenced in April 2003 to 10 years of probation, 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Zuniga was pregnant Jan. 24, 2003, when she pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child. Her daughter was born on Feb. 7, 2003.

The boy's family allowed Duran to initially raise the girl as long as they were granted visitation rights and Duran was supervised.

The now-17-year-old student and his parents want custody of the child, and said Duran, a registered sex offender, should not raise the girl.

The teenaged Gallardo testified yesterday that he could provide a better environment for his daughter since the mother is a convicted sex offender who is prohibited from being around children unsupervised.

Zuniga Duran broke down during her testimony, explaining she feared the loss of her child. Interestingly, it's alleged that Duran has refused to allow Gallardo to see his daughter which probably makes her considerably less sympathetic.

The custody case before State District Judge Doug Warne continues today.
