Muslim Councillor Blasts Terrorists

It's not often that Muslims stand up against Islamic terrorists so every instance is worth noting. Here's one from the UK.

A prominent South Yorkshire Muslim councillor today blasted leading Islamics in Britain, telling them: "Stop making excuses for terror."

Coun Jahangir Akhtar said he could no longer hold his peace after 38 Muslim groups signed a letter to the Prime Minister suggesting foreign policy was fuelling home-grown terror.

"I am incensed that they have written such a letter at this time.

"It is very insensitive at this time and I can't believe they've done it. The impression is that they are making excuses for terrorism and that's wrong.

"Terrorism is a terrible thing. These people are hell-bent on killing their own people. By that I mean our people, all of us, British citizens, white, black or brown.

"We have fantastic rights here and we have a long history of changing things through the democratic process.

"We should have a zero tolerance for these criminals and there is no excuse for what they are doing or trying to do.

"There can be no excuses for carrying out criminal activities here.

"Whatever we think of our foreign policy - and I think many disagree with it - we cannot form that policy based on the fear that someone could bomb our cities or planes."

Councillor Akhtar should be applauded . . . and, probably, protected. I imagine that his words will be offensive to more than a few homicidal followers of the religion of peace. And we all know what happens when Islamists are offended.
