(Monroe, Louisiana) A 28-year-old substitute teacher at Lee Junior High School, Adrian K. Sims, has been charged with child molestation for engaging in a sexual relationship and impregnating a 14-year-old student. The police were alerted when the girl was 5 1/2 months pregnant. Sims is in jail with bond set at $350,000.
From KATC.com:
Monroe City School Superintendent James Dupree said Sims was only employed as a substitute teacher for 33 days, but more than 20 of those days were at Lee.Now, correct me if I'm wrong but I understand that a person could get a high school equivalency certificate without ever having attended high school. As such, it's rather strange that a person could qualify to teach as a substitute.
Dupree said Sims also passed the background check conducted by the school board. The only qualifications for substitutes are a high-school equivalency and the background check.
