Blade Endorses Anything Non-GOP
I swear. The editors of Toledo Blade must have had to check their endorsement for governor piece several times to make sure they put someone's name in. Today's ridiculous rant against the Republican party is thinly veiled as an endorsement for Democrat Ted Strickland. I counted about 900 words in the piece and 750 are devoted to blasting Republicans.
Of Strickland, little is mentioned other than that he's "worthy" and that he's not a Republican. Some space is devoted to reminding us that Strickland went to school and that he was a congressman. The Blade also considers it important that Strickland doesn't come from a big city. However, no mention is made of any true accomplishments by Strickland nor is there any hint of what he plans for the future.
Strangely, the Blade emphasizes that Strickland is a psychologist. He's taught psychology and was a psychological counselor for prison inmates. Now, someone please tell me. Which great accomplishments of civilization can psychologists take credit for? If one were looking for generals to fight a war, if one were seeking project leaders to build a canal or a railroad or a skyscraper, or if one wanted someone to lead millions of people in a positive direction, I cannot imagine that one would be perusing the roster of available psychologists. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see Strickland's psychology background as a positive. If anything, psychologists don't make decisions. They sit, ask people what they think and say, "Uh huh."
In summary, the Toledo Blade endorses Strickland not because he's a better man for the job, but because he's not a Republican. The newspaper has an agenda. It really didn't make any difference which Democrat was chosen to run for governor.
