Homeless-Only Village

(Daytona Beach, Florida) The Volusia County Council has launched discussion on a proposed city for the homeless, called Tiger Bay Village, to house Daytona Beach's estimated 2,500 vagrants.

Tiger Bay Village will provide shelter and psychiatic treatment to the homeless in a 5,600-bed community on 125 acres of rural real estate. The fact that the project creates 5,600 beds for an estimated 2,500 people is telling. Either everyone will have two beds or an influx is expected.

Supporters of the project believe that the cow can actually jump over the moon -- the cash cow, that is. Critics rightfully see the idea as another expensive do-gooder giveaway project which will magnetically attract vagrants from other communities. Other cities will logically be thankful when they can print a destination on the bus tickets shoved into vagrants' hands.

Developer Michael Arth proposed the idea. I'm guessing he will be able to buy a bigger yacht.

In summary, Daytona Beach has a problem with vagrants and a solution has been proposed to consolidate the homeless in a defined area, giving them shelter and treatment. This action may bump Daytona Beach into the top tier of The Best Cities for the Homeless.
