Illegal Alien Prostitution Ring Busted

(Austin, Texas) On Friday, 34-year-old Juan Balderas-Orosco pleaded guilty to multiple smuggling and prostitution crimes in U.S. District Court. Balderas, along with a dozen others, were previously indicted for human smuggling and operating a multi-state ring of brothels in 13 cities from Las Vegas to New York employing illegal alien prostitutes.

According to court documents, the crime ring smuggled hundreds of prostitutes into the U.S. from Mexico and Central and South America. A sentencing date wasn't announced for Balderas who faces 30 years in prison.

In an interesting side note, Balderas' attorney, Kristin Etter, claimed that the whole case resulted from a "broken immigration system."
With limited legal channels for immigrants to the U.S., some immigrants "are pushed into this underground economy and forced into these kinds of jobs," she said outside court.
What? She's blaming the U.S. immigration policies for the crimes?

If I understand correctly, Etter is claiming that the U.S. immigration system doesn't provide for sufficient influx of immigrant prostitutes, therefore, they have to be smuggled into the country and are forced to work illegally. Apparently, Etter thinks that the quota for foreign hookers to become immigrant U.S. citizens is too low.

Either that or Etter was being creative in defending her guilty client. What's next? Global warming made Balderas a smuggler and a pimp? Or maybe he is bipolar, another popular excuse for committing crimes.
