Female Dance Teacher, Boy, Tequila, Cha Cha Cha!

(Joliet, Illinois) On Tuesday, a 23-year-old dance teacher, Monica Tai, pleaded guilty to engaging in sex with a male student. Tai faces a possible seven years in prison. Will County Judge Dan Rozak will announce the actual punishment for the conviction of aggravated sexual abuse at sentencing.

The victim's mother, Laura Diaz, described the circumstances of the sexual episode that Tai admitted having with her son.
On the night of the party, Tai gave her son a drink laced with tequila, Diaz said. The boy drank some and soon felt sick. Tai offered to take him home but instead stopped at a Crest Hill parking lot, and they had sex, Diaz said.

The mother's story was collaborated (sic) in court Tuesday when Will County Assistant State's Attorney John Connor explained the case to the judge. The state had worked out a deal with Tai and Eric Mitchell, her lawyer, Connor said. In exchange for her guilty plea, Connor said Tai should be sentenced to 30 months probation and be required to register as a sex offender. She cannot drink alcohol or use the Internet while on probation, among other restrictions, he added.

"Are you pleading guilty freely and voluntarily?" Rozak asked Tai.

"Yes," she said.
A June 19th sentencing date has been scheduled.

[Update 07/31/07]
