Registered Rapist Repeats

(Ozark, Alabama) In 1993, Kent Stewart was convicted of violently raping an elderly woman and sentenced to prison. In 2003, Stewart was released with the requirement to register as a sex offender.

Yesterday, 43-year-old Stewart was arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a 10-year-old girl. According to Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey:
[T]he girl was playing at a playground in her apartment complex around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when Stewart approached her and offered to pay her $2 to help him move a chair. She refused and Stewart grabbed her and took her into his home.

Spivey said the girl didn't resist because she may have been threatened. Spivey said Stewart then undressed the girl and raped her. He then released her and she ran home. The girl made it to her home, about 200 yards away, and identified Stewart to her mother, who called the police.
The girl was taken to the hospital, treated and released. U.S. Marshals assisted in Stewart's arrest when he was found hiding in the attic of a house adjacent to his residence. Stewart has been charged with kidnapping and rape.

It's seems apparent that Stewart wasn't properly rehabilitated while doing his 1993-2003 stint in prison. Imagine that. In all candor, if one believes as I do, efforts to rehabilitate predatory sex offenders are a waste of time and money.
