Lawyer Wants $11,000 per Hour

(Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) If you have ever wondered how some lawyers become super wealthy, check out this story.
Attorney Willie Gary asked Circuit Court Judge Leroy Moe to approve at least $11,000 an hour, for a total of $24.3 million, from Motorola for work he did on a lawsuit against the company.
So, Gary represented Motorola's adversary in a trial that ended with a hung jury and he wants Motorola to pay him $11,000 for each of about 2,200 hours he worked on the case. Judge Moe will decide today.

If Judge Moe rules in favor of Gary, Motorola said it will appeal. If so, Motorola can likely expect the case to be heard by Judge Moe's colleagues, Judge Larry and Judge Curly.

[Update 04/20/07]

Judge Moe ruled in favor of attorney Willie Gary against Motorola. Moe did not, however, give Gary all that he wanted.
Moe decided on $20 million in fees and $2.9 million in costs. That would put the fee for Gary and his firm at about $1,050 per hour.
Well, it's not $11,000 per hour but a nice rate nonetheless.
