Darwin Award for Tagging 115,000 Volt Substation

(Santa Fe, New Mexico) An 18-year-old adventurous graffiti vandal, Aaron Vigil, died early this morning from injuries sustained when he spray-painted an electrical substation.

Euphemistically called a tagger, Vigil reportedly climbed over a 20-foot cement wall topped with razor wire and started spray painting the equipment. He was immediately greeted with 115,000 volts of electricity and, according to Deputy Police Chief Benjie Montano, the paint likely ignited.
When officers arrived at the substation, they found Vigil with his shirt off, his shoes and socks still on, much of the right side of his jeans burned off and his skin discolored, Montano said. He didn't know whether Vigil was conscious when officers and other emergency personnel arrived.

Pictures taken at the substation showed a scorched can of spray paint and a pair of burned and bloody jeans with much of the right pants leg missing.
Vigil was airlifted to University Hospital in Albuquerque and later flown to the Arizona Burn Center in Phoenix. However, there was little that doctors could do since Vigil suffered burns over 80 percent of his body.

Thinking human beings are reminded to heed "High Voltage" signs. Of course, thinking human beings know that already.
