Daycare Owner Accused of Murdering Toddler

(Tulsa, Oklahoma) A 42-year-old daycare provider, Vicki Chiles, was arrested last week after DHS authorities arrived at the daycare regarding an unrelated child abuse case and found her trying to perform CPR on an unresponsive two-year-old toddler, Joshua Minton.

Chiles told investigators that the child was unruly at nap time so she tied his hands together with tape and taped his mouth shut.

When found, Joshua Minton was unconscious and didn't have a heartbeat. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

With the death, Chiles was taken into custody on first-degree murder charges and held without bail.

Interestingly, the day before the incident involving Joshua, the state filed charges against Chiles regarding an allegation of child abuse of an 8-year-old boy who was repeatedly hit with a fly swatter. The Minton family was never notified that Chiles was under investigation by DHS authorities and the Tulsa Police.

The Minton family buried Joshua Minton yesterday. They are justifiably outraged that their son died and they were never notified of the problems with the daycare center.
Atonda Minton says had she known about the allegations Joshua's parents would have pulled him out of the daycare.

"The other parents have a right to know that there is a problem in that daycare. They have a right to know," Minton said.

"You don't leave your kids in the house if the smoke alarms are going off, or a bomb threat. It should have been an alarm going off in their head. This woman has already abused, she's going to do it again," said Minton.

Minton says she can't understand why it took several weeks to investigate the initial complaint of abuse, and she wants the process sped up.
Condolences to the family of Joshua Minton.
