Man with HIV Gets Life in Teen Sex Case

(Dallas, Texas) An HIV-positive man, Willie Atkins, was sentenced to life in prison for attempting to entice a 15-year-old boy to engage in sex acts.

Atkins secretly videotaped his unprotected sexual encounters and prosecutors obtained 90 hours of video indicating a total of over 100 sexual partners, none of which apparently were warned by Atkins of his HIV. One tape even showed Atkins having unprotected sex with an unconscious man.

From DallasNews.com:
Mr. Atkins' family left the courthouse without commenting, but their pastor, Alex Horton, said the family felt Mr. Atkins was punished for being a promiscuous gay man.

"The family knows William Atkins has some problems," he said. "At the same time, they think the judge turned this into a video case . . . If Mr. Atkins did not have those videos, if those videos had not been allowed, I don't think the punishment would be as great."
Boy, there's a nugget of wisdom. Pastor Horton believes that the punishment would have been lenient if there were no evidence. Can we have a communal DUH?

Atkins became eligible for a life sentence since he's a three-time loser who was previously convicted of aggravated robbery and firearms possession. Seriously, let's all agree that Atkins shouldn't be free to plant his infected fluids in more members of society. As it is, no one knows who Atkins has already infected and what has happened to them.
