(Billings, Montana) In October 2006, 29-year-old Tara Moler telephoned the Billings Police Department and said she wanted to turn herself in for engaging in sex with a 14-year-old boy. It's not clear why, however, I assume that there was a warrant for her arrest. Subsequently, she was booked and released on $20,000 bond.
Yesterday in District Court, Moler pleaded guilty before Judge Russell Fagg to having a sexual relationship with the boy.
A plea agreement in the case calls for prosecutors to recommend a sentence of 10 years with the state Department of Corrections with all but 30 days suspended. Moler may choose to spend 90 days of house arrest in lieu of the 30 days in jail.A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 10th.
Defense attorney Jay Lansing will ask for a lesser penalty of a deferred sentence. The 30 days in jail or 90 days of house arrest are part of a joint recommendation by the prosecutor and defense attorney. Moler must also complete sex offender treatment.
Okay, readers, put your handicapper's goggles on and predict what Moler's sentence will be. Ten years prison or 90 days house arrest? Too easy, eh?
