Paris Hilton Jailed, Debra Lafave Not

Unless you live in a cave, chances are you've heard the latest story about Paris Hilton. She was sentenced to 45 days in jail for repeatedly driving while her license was suspended, a probation violation.

My only comment is that Paris Hilton's lawyer should have used the Debra Lafave defense. Lafave, you may recall, was convicted of repeatedly mixing it up with a schoolboy in a rather licentious fashion and got no jail.

According to Lafave lawyer John Fitzgibbons:
"To place an attractive young woman in that kind of hell hole is like putting a piece of raw meat in with the lions."
Now see, if Paris Hilton had asserted that she was "too pretty for jail," maybe she would have walked as Lafave did.

On the other hand, some might contend that Paris Hilton doesn't meet the Debra Lafave standard of attractiveness and, therefore, she's "not too pretty for jail."

Too Pretty vs. Not Too Pretty

Readers can make the call.

But, then again, beauty likely isn't the only factor to consider. The offenses committed by these two criminals are considerably different. Paris Hilton was jailed for driving when she shouldn't have. Debra Lafave wasn't jailed for riding in the back seat of a car and engaging in sex with a 14-year-old boy.

Therefore, if one is confronted with the dilemma of driving under suspension versus having sex with a 14-year-old boy in the backseat, by all means, let someone else drive and get in the backseat.
