Teacher Indicted for Theft of Child's Coat

(Hillsboro, Oregon) A 41-year-old first-grade teacher at Jackson Elementary School, Elizabeth Logan, was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly stealing a third-grade student's jacket and trying to sell it on eBay.

Logan faces charges of first-degree theft and felony unlawful use of a computer. She is on paid leave from her teaching position.

Logan claims the whole episode is a misunderstanding and I tend to agree. If Logan is rational, it's inconceivable that she would risk her career for the gain from the sale of a child's jacket.

From KPTV.com:
The mother of the child, who is known only as Nancy, said she was outraged when her daughter's missing Columbia Sportswear jacket appeared on eBay.

Nancy said she checked the lost and found and put up fliers around the school. She eventually began shopping for a replacement jacket on eBay and said that's where she found the missing coat.

The mother brought the information to the attention of the school and Hillsboro police, who took over the investigation.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday in Washington County Court.

[Update 11/04/07]

Logan trial underway.
