Bilingual Aide Pleads No Contest to Sex Crimes
(Paso Robles, California) Earlier this year, a 24-year-old teacher's aide at Flamson Middle School, Cora Marie Solorio, was arrested for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old male student.
Solorio was charged with lewd and lascivious acts with a minor and oral copulation with a child under 14 years of age. She was booked and later released on $100,000 bond.
Apparently, Solorio functioned as a bilingual tutor although she was initially hired as a clerical worker. It is as a tutor that she met with students. She is a married mother-of-three, maiden name Nungaray, who also was previously a student at Flamson Middle School. Reportedly, she was having marital problems when the relationship with the boy transpired in her cubicle at work and at her home.
Last Friday, Solorio pleaded no contest to committing a lewd act on a child under age 14 and to two charges of having oral sex with a child under age 14 in accordance with a plea bargain. In exchange, the district attorney dropped four counts of a lewd act and three counts of oral sex.
Sentencing has been scheduled for July 18th. Solorio's crimes carry a potential penalty of 12 years in prison.
Getting real, I'll boldly predict that she gets probation with an order for some sort of mandatory counseling. After all, she's a woman, has three kids and seems to be psychologically troubled. In some similar cases, there have been claims that the female child sex offender is bipolar, leading to mitigation of any sentence.
[Update 07/30/07]
Solorio sentenced.
