Given a choice, I'd much rather have over-crowded jails than experience a violent crime. But, not everyone feels the same, in particular, liberal judges.
Criminals released early from prison because of the overcrowding crisis have committed a further 48 offences since the controversial scheme was introduced. So, they let the prisoners out early and they commit more crimes. What a shock! Frankly, I'd suggest the terms of incarceration are too short to begin with.
When added to the eight committed by those released in the first few days of the scheme, it brings the total number of new offences to 56.
Hell, rather than being mugged, carjacked or murdered, I would sanction the use of hydraulic rams to fit more prisoners behind bars.
It's worth mentioning that the Brits aren't the only folks putting relief valves on prisons. The U.S. has been releasing prisoners due to overcrowding for years. Great freaking program! Catch them, jail them, release them, catch them again, jail them again, release them again ....
With liberalism, no problems are ever solved. They are merely launching pads for newer, bigger problems.
