(Peoria, Illinois) In March 2007, a 26-year-old teacher at Manual High School, Jodi Church, was charged under state law with felony sexual assault for allegedly engaging in sex with a 16-year-old male student. Also in March, Church was charged in federal court with using the Internet (MySpace) to lure a different 16-year-old male student into having sex.
In the latest development, Jodi Church, now 27, pleaded guilty on Friday to a federal charge of enticement of a minor for sexual activity using MySpace.com. Sentencing in the case is scheduled for November 30th. She faces a possible sentence of 10 years to life in prison.
Church still faces charges of criminal sexual assault in Peoria County Circuit Court. A December 3rd trial date has been scheduled.
