Convicted Teacher Released Early

(Nashua, New Hampshire) In December 2006, teacher and married mother-of-two, Jennifer Malone, was found guilty of kidnapping after jury deliberations of 90 minutes.

In February, Malone was sentenced. For kidnapping, she received no jail. For violating bail conditions while awaiting trial, she received 12 months.

Less than eight months hence, 33-year-old Malone was released this week from the Hillsborough County House of Corrections. Malone had requested early release because of good behavior. Judge Bernard Hampsey Jr. granted the request.

In summary, a 30-something teacher has sex with a 16-year-old student, absconds to Florida with him, gets arrested after a nationwide search, is convicted of kidnapping and violation of bail conditions and, as a result, spends eight months in jail.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm guessing that a man committing the same acts would have been handed something less pleasant, like a few birthdays behind bars.
