(Nashua, New Hampshire) In December 2006, 32-year-old married mother of two sons, Jennifer Malone, was found guilty of kidnapping after a mere 90 minutes deliberations by a jury. On Monday of this week, she was sentenced.
From Concord Monitor:
A Canterbury woman was sentenced to one year in prison today after running away to Florida with her teenage lover and 8-year-old son last June. Jennifer Malone, 32, was found guilty of kidnapping 16-year-old Christopher Cole of Nashua in December because she took him across state lines without his parents' permission. She also pleaded guilty to stalking him; while free on bail, she showed up at his work site. So, Malone walks on the kidnapping conviction and gets a year for stalking. Why the kidnapping charge was not taken more seriously is not known. Agreed, the kid was a juvenile offender but she was the adult who failed to act responsibly.
She received a one-year sentence for the stalking conviction and a suspended three-to-six year sentence for kidnapping. She also must register as a sex offender.
[Update 09/01/07]
Malone released early.
