(Seoul, South Korea) A South Korean businessman has spent two years getting approval to open a fried chicken outlet in North Korea.
Choi Won-ho, who runs a 70-store fried chicken franchise in the South, said he would hire about 30 North Koreans to take telephone orders, fry home-grown chicken and hop on scooters to make home deliveries in Pyongyang. This is surprising. Who knew that North Korea had chickens? Much less enough home grown chickens to supply a fast food restaurant?
"It's been tough but I'm sure it'll do well," Choi said, as he tried to dispel doubts about the prospects of his investment in a country that can hardly feed its people even when it has a good harvest.
Nonetheless, North Korea needs business, any business. Of course, success will be contingent upon Kim Jong-il being able to steal all the profit.
However, if the wormy little commie dictator keeps his chicken-lickin' fingers out of the business ....
Nah! Never happen. I don't know what I was thinking.
