(Deridder, Louisiana) In October 2006, a teacher at South Beauregard Junior High, Marla K. Meek, was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student. Meek turned herself in to the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's office. Reportedly, Meek was friends with the boy's parents.

Meek was booked on charges of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and computer-aided solicitation for sexual purposes. She was released on $35,000 bond.

Yesterday, Meek pleaded guilty to carnal knowledge of a juvenile. As a result, Meek was sentenced by Judge Herman Stewart to five years in prison with four years suspended. Meek will serve one year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections and four years probation.

Meek must also register as a sex offender and she is prohibited from making contact with her victim or any member of his family. She was also ordered to seek therapy and pay fines and restitution. Lastly, Meek is not allowed to be around male juveniles other than her own children.
