Texas Teacher Gets Probation in Student Sex Case

(Lumberton, Texas) In February 2005, a 39-year-old former resource teacher at Lumberton High School, Kathy Denise White, was indicted by a Hardin County grand jury for felony improper relationship with a 17-year-old male student.

White was accused of engaging in sex with the youngster at her home and at Lumberton High School. She was also accused of threatening the student about his grades in order to maintain the relationship.

After more than two years, news broke that there was progress in the Kathy White case. At the time, it was thought the case would go to trial.

However, eight months hence we learn that a plea deal has been struck between White's attorney, David Barlow, and the Hardin County District Attorney's Office.
Judge Britt Plunk sentenced Kathy White to ten years deferred probation and a $2,000 fine on one count of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student. A second count was dismissed. White could have faced up to 20 years in prison on each charge.
Despite what she could have received, now 42-year-old White walks with deferred probation, just as I predicted.
