NC Teacher's Assistant Gets No Jail in Sex Case - Updated

(Graham, North Carolina) Former teacher's assistant Leslie Marie Troup, now 25, pleaded guilty yesterday to two felony counts of engaging in sex with students from Western Alamance High School.
In exchange for her plea on two counts, Troup, who did not have a criminal history, received a suspended sentence of 13 to 16 months and was placed on supervised probation for three years. As part of the plea agreement, the state dismissed the remaining charges.

Because she was considered to be a low risk, Senior Resident Superior Court Judge J.B. Allen Jr. did not order her to participate in a sex offender program. She will, however, be required to register as a sex offender. She was also ordered to stay away from the premises of Western Alamance and not to contact any of the victims in the case.
Troup's supporters said she is a warm, caring woman who followed negative influences.
