Counselor Accused of Inappropriate Relationship with Boy

(Los Angeles County, California) A 33-year-old guidance counselor at Golden Valley High School, Roselyn Hubbell, has been arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a teenage boy.
Hubbell was arrested June 10 on felony charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and child endangerment.

She was attempting to check into a San Fernando Valley hotel with a minor at the time of her arrest. The boy was also arrested for cocaine possession.

She is still being investigated for an alleged inappropriate relationship with another boy.
This week, charges against Hubbell were reduced to misdemeanor annoying or molesting of a child under the age of 18.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for July 28.

[Update 9/3/08]

(Santa Clarita, California) The family of a different victim, 14 years old, has filed a claim against the William S. Hart Union High School District accusing Hubbell of sexual abuse.
"It certainly is a tragedy any time a child is sexually abused, but I think the greater tragedy would result if this counselor were exempted from being required to answer in the criminal courts for these crimes she committed," said Vince Finaldi, the attorney for the family who filed the claim.

The Hart district rejected the family's claim, he said, adding that he now plans to file a lawsuit.

A district spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter because it is pending litigation.

The boy, who was 14 at the time, was assigned to Hubbell, and she became friends with him and his mother, according to the claim. Hubbell drove the boy home from school each day.

The alleged incidents took place between January and September 2007 at the high school, in Hubbell's car and at the boy's home, according to the claim.

In addition to various sexual acts, Hubbell allegedly required the boy to smoke marijuana.

The boy's mother found a note under his bed from Hubbell, Finaldi said.
The LA County Sheriff's Department is investigating the new allegations.

[Update 10/31/08]

Hubbell may avoid felony charges due to lack of evidence. One of the boys refuses to testify against her. A hearing on misdemeanor charges is scheduled for November 19.
