Opinion: Brits Are All Drunks

(United Kingdom) An American writer and New York Times correspondent, Sarah Lyall, wrote a piece for the Daily Mail which asserts that Brits are all drunks.
Across Europe, per capita drinking has fallen over the past 40 years. In Britain, it's gone up. People start younger, drink more and are increasingly likely to binge drink. Last year, the Government released figures showing that British adults drink, on average, the equivalent of 11.4 bottles of pure alcohol a year - that's more than 180 bottles of wine or 1,137 pints of beer.

Those are surprising figures, but on an average Saturday night in just about any British town centre, they look like an underestimate. Here, drunken violence and out-of-control behaviour have become the norm.

Newspaper photographs of unconscious women sprawled on the pavements, their mini-skirts hitched up round their waists, suggest that females now seem to be drinking every bit as much as men - and behaving just as badly.
Heh, Cheers!
