(Denver, Colorado) A 27-year-old English teacher at Sheridan High School, Melissa Snow, was arrested yesterday for the alleged sexual assault of a male student.
Snow faces two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, one with a pattern of behavior.
According to Superintendent Michael Clough, Snow was placed on administrative leave.
The sexual abuse allegedly happened off campus and was not related to a school activity or event, according to Clough.Snow was booked into custody at the Denver City Jail and later released on $50,000 bond.
The high school is sending letters home to the parents and using an automatic phone dialing system to tell them about the arrest.
"We do everything possible to keep children safe and secure," said Clough. "We have set up offers of counseling for students who have been emotionally affected by this."
Denver Police Department spokesman Sonny Jackson says even though Snow was arrested on two charges, that does not necessarily mean that there are two victims.
