Bride-To-Be Swept to Sea

(Neskowin, Oregon) A 45-year-old Silverton man, Scott Napper, was preparing to pop the question to girlfriend Leafil Alforque, 22, at renowned Proposal Rock near Neskowin Beach when a three-foot wave swept in, caught Leafil and receded, carrying the young bride-to-be out to sea.

A diminutive 4-foot-11, 93-pound recent arrival from the Philippines, Leafil Alforque couldn't fight the torrent carrying her into the Pacific Ocean. Napper tore off his jacket and looked up to see she was gone.
"That's the last I saw of her," he said in an interview Wednesday, breaking into tears.

Emergency personnel called by a someone on the beach arrived within minutes. His own phone no longer worked after being exposed to the water.

Along with rescuers, he searched for any sign of Alforque.

"I yelled for her," he said. "I was praying to God." [...]

Thick fog and dangerous water conditions hampered the rescue efforts before the search was suspended on Monday.
Foul play is not suspected.
