Film of Muhammad

Iranian-born Dutchman Ehsan Jami has produced a film which imagines an interview with the Prophet Mohammad if he were alive today.

An Interview with Muhammad

The film is essentially a call to present-day Muslims to reform their thinking. It is interesting and even has some, likely controversial, humor.
An Interview with Muhammad is less confrontational than its predecessors. The 15-minute film shows Mr Jami interviewing the prophet Muhammad, played by an actor wearing a Bedouin headdress, his face covered by a paper mask.

Modern prophet
The two discuss various aspects of Muhammad's life. By way of a relaxed, contemporary news interview, the film creates a more modern, free-thinking version of the Muslim prophet.

"Muslims should interpret the deeds of Muhammad differently, that's what I hope, that's what I try to do. The realisation has to come with their conscience, with a reformation."
Twenty-three-year-old Ehsan Jami has a controversial past and some Muslim leaders have tended to disregard him as an irrelevant apostate who once organized a group called the Committee of Ex-Muslims.

So far, it appears that Jami has not experienced violence by Islamic extremists even though he once compared Muhammad to Hitler and the film covers topics that are taboo in Islam. However, this latest film has already produced strong reaction from many in the Muslim community.
