Satanic Clothes Banned in Iran
(Tehran, Iran) President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has directed a crackdown on satanic clothes. Consequently, the Iranian fashion police are on the prowl for violators. This week alone, 49 people have been arrested.
Notably, it's not exactly clear what constitutes "satanic" clothing. Chances are that it's based upon an on-the-spot assessment by individual fashion police officers. In other words, it can't be specifically defined but rather a circumstance of "I'll know when I see it."
Interestingly, the police are also closing barber shops for "promoting Western styles" which presumably violates a Western styles law.
Of course, since Ahmadinejad will continue to use telephones, computers, cars, electricity, modern medicine, etc., it's not possible for Iran to eliminate all Western influence, at least not if he wants to continue being the world's premier loose cannon. Without Western influence, Ahmadinejad would be in a tent raising goats, hardly a position of power.
