(Rangeley, Maine) In the small, northwestern Maine community of Rangeley (pop. 700), only a few miles from the Canadian border, nine South American illegal aliens were apprehended this past weekend.
The men are from Ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil, said Benjamin Moreno, director of public affairs at the U. S. Customs and Border Protection's Houlton office.A concerned citizen alerted authorities about men working without proper papers. Interestingly, Moreno said the names of the illegals could not be released. No reason was given.
Seven of the men were arrested on charges of illegal entry into the United States and face administrative deportation, Moreno said. The other two had been arrested and deported once before and face more serious criminal charges of reentry after deportation.
In summary, it's bad news that U.S. citizens are concerned about a flaccid economy and worried about possibly losing their jobs, but it's arguably good news that illegal aliens from the guts of South America are able to find gainful employment.
Heh.
