(Rockford, Illinois) Last week in Kansas, a 28-year-old woman, Katie Stockton, was arrested by FBI Fugitive Task Force officers for involvement in the notorious unsolved Baby Crystal case.
Baby Crystal was a newborn found dead in a garbage bag on the side of an Illinois road in December 2004.
Stockton faces charges in Baby Crystal's death.
Police say Stockton gave birth to a full-term baby girl in December 2004, wrapped the baby in bloody clothing, placed the baby and the clothing in a garbage bag, dumped the bag along the road near her parents’ house in rural Rockton and left the baby to freeze to death.Meanwhile, law enforcers conducted a search for vehicles owned by Stockton and found a 1993 Saturn, impounded in South Beloit since August 2008. At a news conference today, Winnebago County Sheriff Dick Meyers, Winnebago County State's Attorney Joe Bruscato and Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia announced the discovery of the skeletal remains of two infants.
Fiduccia said it's difficult to tell whether the bones are of twins, but the remains will be examined. Fiduccia also said the investigation will determine sex, age and trauma, such as were they born alive or still born.Three dead babies are linked to Katie Stockton.
"We have a lot of testing to do," Fiduccia said. "It will take weeks."
