Schwarzenegger Signs Bill to Track Ammo

(Sacramento, California) Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a bill (AB 962) to require sellers of handgun ammunition to keep a log of sales information which includes the buyer's thumbprint, signature and driver's license data. The bill, sponsored by Los Angeles Democrat Kevin De Leon, goes into effect in 2011.
Because the governor had vetoed other bills restricting guns this year, the executive of Gun Owners of California was baffled that the governor agreed to track ammunition sales.

"We think it was a devastating mistake,'' said Sam Paredes, executive director of the group representing 30,000 gun owners. Ammunition buyers, he said, "are going to be treated like registered sex offenders now.''
By putting restrictions on ammunition, this bill is just another step toward complete gun control. Arguably, the anti-gun crowd are utopians who believe that anything that makes gun ownership more burdensome is good. After all, without ammunition, what good is a gun? Expect Second Amendment opponents to continue to exasperate and restrict as many facets of gun ownership as possible.

Schwarzenegger also signed bills to celebrate slain homosexual activist Harvey Milk's birthday (May 22), to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states, to criminalize paparazzi picture-taking, to prohibit cosmetic surgery without a physical examination and to outlaw political candidates from paying their spouses to work on their campaigns.
