Man Arrested at Border for Terrorist Resources
(Vancouver, British Columbia) A 35-year-old Syrian national, Khaled Nawaya, was arrested by border agents for allegedly attempting to enter Canada with contraband and terrorist resources. Nawaya was found to have undeclared gold and currency worth nearly $1 million in his car and pockets.
Other items found and considered to be terrorist resources included a ring bearing the insignia of Hezbollah, 9/11 conspiracy-themed DVDs, and a scarf adorned with the images of a former Israeli prime minister and a U.S. president depicted as monkeys.
Nawaya's lawyer, Phil Rankin, said all the items and the funds can be easily explained but so far hasn't provided a convincing story. Consequently, Nawaya is being detained pending completion of a thorough investigation.
Nawaya is a flight instructor seeking permanent resident status in Canada.
