(Victoria, British Columbia) Charges of fraud and breach of trust in a $222-million electronic records program contracts have been filed against high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Health and the Fraser Health Authority. One doctor faces similar charges.
The charges are significant not only because they are against former high-ranking health officials, but also because they are directly related to B.C.’s high-profile push toward electronic health records, something the government plans to have in place by March 2013.British Columbia has been plagued with problems in the electronic health records program.
The charges include four counts — three fraud and one breach of trust — against Ron Danderfer, a former assistant deputy minister of health who helped award millions in contracts for the electronic health initiative. [...]
The charges also include three counts of fraud and one of breach of trust against James Roy Taylor, a former manager with the Fraser Health Authority who administered an annual budget of $9 million. [...]
Dr. Jonathan Burns, a health contractor and doctor who billed large amounts in relation to the electronic health program, also faces eight counts — six fraud and two breach of trust.
